The Call to Repentance - Hebrews 11:1-5
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
The Prayer of Confession (after silent confession)
All: O LORD, forgive us of our great sins against You. Otherwise, we shall be consumed by Your anger and dismayed by Your wrath. Our iniquities are evident before You, and our secret sins cannot be hidden in the light of Your presence. None of us fully understand the power of Your anger. None of us have rightly feared you as we should. Teach us to appreciate every day we are able to walk before you, and give us wise hearts so that we do not use our days for our own selfishness. Teach us to be satisfied with Your lovingkindness and teach us to be joyful in our salvation. May your grace and mercy be upon us, and may the works of our hands be glorifying to you, we ask in the name of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Amen. (Psalm 90)
